Remember and Don't Forget 9/11

Remember 9-11
Remembering 9/11
Today the United States will mark the 14th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people Friday with memorial events reflecting grief, loss and anger. On Sept. 11, 2001, al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger planes, crashing them into the north and south towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Virginia and a field in Pennsylvania.

Sept. 11, 2001, brought Americans closer, however briefly, as many looked to one another for strength, courage and comfort. Below is a poem written by a New York classroom one year after 9-11

List of “Don’t Forgets” and “Remembers”

Before September 11th, we would wake up with a list of “Don’t Forgets”
Don’t forget to wash your face
Don’t forget to brush your teeth
Don’t forget to do your homework
Don’t forget to wear your jacket
Don’t forget to clean your room
Don’t forget to take a bath

After September 11th, we wake up with a list of “Remembers”
Remember to greet the sun each morning
Remember to enjoy every meal
Remember to thank your parents for their hard work
Remember to honor those who keep you safe
Remember to value each person you meet
Remember to respect other’s beliefs
